All Dressed Up

All Dressed Up

… A wedding! Having spent exactly two days in Oregon, it was high time for a classy celebration, and fortunately, we had just the occasion. It’s hard to imagine anything further from our trail lives than attending a wedding. First of all, showers, showers, showers. We took a bus from the Timberline Lodge, followed by another bus, and a tram to arrive in Portland, where one last bus brought us home to Seattle, yet again. A flurry of soap, nail clippers, combs, brushes, clippers, razors, and scrubbing later, we deemed ourselves presentable.

Our good friends Gawan and Kelsey were the cause of the celebration, having planned not just any wedding, but one taking place on a large historic sail boat, the Zodiac Schooner. Greeted by a bagpipe serenade (a tradition of Gawan’s family) we boarded for an evening of pirate shenanigans. The ceremony and following events were wonderful, although we did feel rather out of place in our freshly ironed clothes, no longer smelling of sweat, last nights spilled dinner, and generally trail… “It felt like a costume” - Daphne now

Pirate Daphne!

Refreshed with energy, spirit, and lots of food, more busses awaited us, as well as a very generous trail angel on our return journey to the trail. After a rapid fire weekend, we once again dip into our simple, one-directional (south) trail lives.

Huge congratulations to Gawan and Kelsey!
