❤️ berries berries berries ❤️
Growing up in Catalunya, where summers are typically dry, berry picking was never really a part of my childhood- aside from the occasional handful of blackberries in September. But here in Washington state, it’s a completely different story. Berries are everywhere, in every shape, size, and color imaginable. And I’m obsessed.
Here’s a showcase of all the berries we’ve seen and eaten:

We’ve seen most wild strawberries growing in burned forest areas, where they get a lot of sun.

Looking like a raspberry but flatter, thimbleberries are sweet and sour. I’d never seen them before this trip, and what a discovery!

The lesser known cousin of the blueberries, huckleberries are well loved by the locals who make pies and ice cream with them.

Mixed in there might be some wild blueberries too!!

These are so beautiful!! Some might say salmon berries are bland, but we enjoyed them the same!
And the QUEEN OF THEM ALL… Blackberries!!!

They are the most delicious and we’ve found GIANT patches of them. Needless to say we’ve stuffed our faces with them and we collected a bunch for our breakfast tomorrow.

Berry picking has become my new favorite activity... if only we had more time for foraging! Our hiking schedule is pretty tight… or if only we had a kitchen and an oven to make pies!!! Dreams for maybe next season…
