Goodbye Oregon!

After 378 miles on trail without a rest, we reached Ashland (“the promised land” according to our SOBO compatriots). Yesterday was a FULL zero day (we hiked zero miles), instead we:

  • Had blueberry cornmeal pancakes with our Bed and Breakfast host
  • Went to a Japanese spa for a 75 minute deep tissue massage (painful but SO good)
  • Visited a gear store for shoes, backpack repairs, water filter replacement, etc.
  • Found delicious paninis
  • Mailed letters

All things considered, a very busy day, but restful! At 103 degrees in Ashland, we were also SO grateful to get a respite from the summer heat…

In Ashland we celebrated once again Daphne’s PhD presentation with presents from Eric and Kirsten, and Maria - THANK YOU!! ❤️

Our next stop will be Siead Valley, in California! Oregon has been a wonderful PCT experience, filled with plentiful trail magic, lake resorts for mid-day meals and ice cream breaks, and beautiful scenery. We will certainly miss the PNW as we make our way south. We both agree that if you had to hike just one section of the PCT, do Oregon!

Also: as we reach the end of Oregon, we have finished the majority of our prepared food. This deserves some retrospection:

  • Daphnes favorite: coconut curry noodles
  • Miles favorite: fancy mac n cheese
  • Least anticipated: pasta Bolognese
  • Best snack: baked parmesan chips
  • Best desert: crème brûlée (thanks Felicia!)
  • Best gummy: nerd gummies
  • Ideal oatmeal toppings: peanut butter powder, chocolate protein, raisins, chia seeds, and cinnamon
  • Favorite lunch: tortilla with PB, Nutella, and banana chips
