Mt Shasta bound

Mt Shasta bound

First things first; this might be one of the first emails you receive from our blog in a while (if you’re subscribed). We’ve been posting but we’ve had some technical difficulties with the emailing service. However, the software wizard Miles has just fixed them and everything should be fine now! YAY!!!

This post is also delayed a few days, and we’re writing it from the trail, after having stopped in Mt Shasta, CA, and posting it from Burney.

This town stop was special because it was one where we experienced the kindness of a person we met during our journey, who opened her house to us barely knowing who we are. These things only happen while on the PCT, right?

But let’s start at the beginning. A couple of weeks ago we stayed at a Bed and Breakfast (BnB) in Ashland, OR where we enjoyed the comforts of staying in a house and sleeping in a bed for two night straight. We also enjoyed eating the delicious breakfast that our host, Jordan, prepared for us in company with the other guests of the BnB. Here is where we met Patti and her friend Carol, who were visiting Ashland to go see a Shakespeare play. Even though our interaction was brief, when we mentioned we were going to be in Mt Ashland a few days after, Patti immediately offered us to stay with her. We exchanged contacts and continued our journey.

The trail from Etna to Mt Shasta was pleasant and we were lucky enough that the fire closure on the trail had just been lifted. Getting back on the trail from Etna we got picked up by a woman in her truck who fed us grapes from her garden and freshly juiced carrot juice! The trail was beautiful as we were on the crests surrounding Mt Shasta mountain on the west side. Our favorite views were from the trail overlooking Mt Shasta and Castle Crags.

And after walking about 100 miles and a few text messages, there we were! Near Mt Shasta town! Patti arranged for Jeff to pick us up from near the trail and then we headed to Patti’s house. We spent the most wonderful afternoon in her house and town, where we were able to get some rest and take care of all of our town resupply needs. The best of everything was eating dinner with Patti and Jeff, home cooked meal of meatballs with polenta topped with a salad, ice cream and red wine. A DREAM! The food was great but the company was even better.

With full bellies and full hearts, Patti gave us a ride back to the trail where we headed on our next 90 mile stretch to Burney, CA. We’d love to add some pictures to this post, but we were having such a good time that we forgot to take any! these are the only ones we have…

From here we’d like to thank Patti again and her generosity, we had the most wonderful stay.

Post from Burney coming soon… ❤️
