Trail Names! 🧂 🌼

There are many trail traditions that make the PCT culture unique, in many cases one of the main reasons for hiking the trail. One of these is the use of “trail names”. Trail names are earned by hikers for distinctive behaviors, characteristics, or rookie mistakes made, and are typically bestowed and accepted by your proximate trail family (“tramily”) during your first weeks on trail.

In our last section on trail, we have both received trail names! Weeks ago, Daphne decided to decorate her pack with some flowers, and since then, has gotten dozens of compliments and envious looks from passing NOBO hikers about them. Finally after relating these experiences, it became obvious she was “Daisy!” Several weeks before, Miles got it in his head that he was going to take an epsom salt bath after the 82 mile section to Cascade Locks. We went straight to the grocery store when we arrived, and struck gold! They had the perfect Lavender scented epsom salt that would surly fix every ache, pain, and soreness in our muscles. We bought it, and walked to our motel room, where disaster struck: there was only a shower! Miles eventually got his epsom soak later in Ashland (after waiting a whole state), and is now “Epsom!”

Now, Daisy and Epsom are back on the trail in California, on our way to Mt. Shasta!
